Recently I’ve been wondering about website design – is there a whole new way to think about how they behave? We’re so used to what we think a website should be, but with so many new technologies available, and with the growing awareness of “apps”, shouldn’t developers start considering websites as applications?

I come from a Flash background. I know Flash has more than a few detractors, and I’m not going to get into the whole pros and cons thing right now – I’m as excited as the next developer about what’s coming in HTML5. What I have always loved about Flash, or more specifically ActionScript, is the speed of development. The actual writing of the code in ActionScript 3.0 (AS3) is a joy, compared to (what I consider to be) the horrible experience of writing and debugging Javascript. The tool I use to create applications – FlashBuilder, is a great environment which compiles in the background, so you can instantly see and trace errors in your code.
